I heard a lecturer
He said that it is very important
to listen to bird songs
everyday
He said it was important
because we have developed
to know that when birds are singing
things are safe.
It’s when they are silent
that there is danger
So when we listen to the songs
it will brighten our mood.

All this to say
that I sort of miss
how you chirp chirp chirp
my name
Or how you tweet and twitter with laughter
when we tell dirty jokes
And the way you hop and skip along the ground
when you want to show me something
or want my attention
And even how you peck at me
like you are looking for seeds
until it is not so funny for me
but you collapse in giggles on the ground, laughing at your own cleverness

So it turns out that all those flighty things
like your little bird song
make me feel safe
and like singing too

And though the silence is clean
it can also be empty
and dangerous
