Mallaig

There is, along the east coast of Scotland, a little town called Mallaig. During the summer it is a tourist town. Over run with people taking day trips to the Isle of Skye. Tourists that the locals both avoid and make their living on. During the winter, however, it is a fishing town. One where everyone knows everyone else. One where all the hotels are closed but one. There are boats in the harbor. People with knit caps. People standing in the middle of empty streets talking. And if you walk into a pub, the locals will come up and flirt. They will put money in the juke box and ask you to sing and dance with them. And at that pub, you will stuff yourself into a coma on something called "fish pie," a dish consisting of salmon and haddock in a creamy sauce over mashed potatoes. I am convinced it has the capacity melt the hardest heart.

these are pictures from mallaig.
